The (Cyber) Bag of Weasels

bread and puppet

"About as much fun as a bag of weasels"...when I first saw this Irish adage, it made me think of the life of a writer: sometimes perilous, sometimes painful, certainly interesting. My paper journal has always been called "The Bag of Weasels." This is the Bag of Weasels' online home.

Elves Are Cool
While I'm flinging memes left and right today....

Stoled from nienna_weeper and phyncke. Mine turned out hopelessly boring, but here goes:

  1. baltimore ravens:
They're the home team, hon! I've always been a supporter of the local sports teams, for better or for worse (usually for worse). I discovered football the year the Ravens won the Super Bowl, and since then, I've loved my team. My poor Ray Lewis jersey is barely decipherable any more from being washed so much.
  2. conversation:
What a better way to learn new things? One of the things I love most about my husband is the way we can talk to each other. My dearest friends, also, are people who teach and inspire me through conversation.
  3. elven fantasy:
Because Oh Yay, Elves Are Cool. (I can hear my husband tittering 5,000 miles away!) Of all of the fantasy creatures, Elves are my favorites. There's so many aspects of "Elvishness" to explore in stories that I feel I could write for a lifetime and not discover all that I wish to discover.
  4. figure skating:
I have been a freestyle rollerskater for more than half my life now. Figure skating gives the delusion of ease and grace but don't be fooled...it's hard as hell! Skating has given me a lot of confidence that I lacked before and is great fun. Fourteen years, and I'm still not tired of it!
  5. freedom of religion:
This is a biggie for me. I am an American agnostic and--at times--I feel threatened by certain lunatic factions in my country. Personally, I love having friends of different beliefs, backgrounds, and religions; to stifle this kind of diversity, to me, seems a tremendous shame. We have so much to learn from each other.
  6. ice cream:
Not eating it, believe it or not...making it! I am the aspiring owner of my own ice cream/confections shop. Ice cream and candy are such simple joys; few things make me happier these days then seeing people's faces light up when they try one of my recipes.
  7. lord of the rings:
Well, I have this inkling of a fondness for Tolkien, if you haven't noticed. Actually, my true love is The Silmarillion, but it was LotR--the movies, then the book--that turned me on to Tolkien in the first place.
  8. nfl:
*see #1* Actually, I might have to remove this interest because I'm officially pissed at the NFL. No Fun League. Or maybe No Fair League would be better. Until they start hiring professional referees instead of the wannabe sots that they employ right now, then they can kiss my continued attention goodbye and--more importantly--my money. I'll root for my Ravens but that's about it.
  9. rollerskating:
*see #4!* This goes along with figure skating. For me, the closest I know to flying is skating.
  10. statistics:
Well, it's my job. I am a research analyst, a big part of which is running statistics. In uni, I was one of the few people who did well in the stats class that was required of psychology majors...and liked it. I am fascinated by the notion that trends and behaviors can be brought beyond the abstract and quantified. Okay, I'm a geek. Anyone surprised?

  • LOL! Yours wasn't boring at all! You should have seen mine! It was so bad I just deleted it. Obviously, I am going to have to reconstruct my LJ interests list.
    • I have something like 88 LJ interests but it picked all the boring ones! I mean, statistics? Come on! And it picked Baltimore Ravens and NFL and then figure skating and rollerskating. And no Elves? No Feanor? No Maedhros?? Boo.

I love your LJ interests list, btw. It's so unique! :)
    • LOL! Well, at least you didn't have a big fat 0! ;-)
  • Reading your random interests selection I thought back on my own and realized that 6 out of 10 are Elves or Elves related stuff. 'Cause my interests list is made up mostly of pretty creatures.

I agree with you 100% on 2,3,5,7 and 10. Yes, statistics, too. I'm pretty good at it and I think I could have some fun working as a stats analyst. So yea, that makes me a geek too. ;p
    • I laughed at your list because it was all Elves! Yet you didn't get Feanor....

Methinks that the LJ interest generator conspires to keep one's favorite Elves from the list. I didn't get Maedhros, after all. Though Nienna did get Erestor....

My mum tells me that my brain is in sideways because I love analytical stuff and also creative stuff. I will tinker with stats or web code for hours, then go off and paint or write. In general psychology, we were supposed to choose whether we were right- or left-brained...I didn't know which to pick! So mum says that my brain is in sideways. ;)

      Long live geeks! :^D
  • Hei, I just checked your interests list and it is not boring at all. ;D
    • The whole list--which is something like 88 items--is not boring in itself. But this generator picked all the boring ones (conversation? statistics?), duplicated twice (ravens/nfl and figure/rollerskating), and didn't even give me a cute Elf to compensate. And I have all of the Feanorians! Sheesh....
  • You are not even a little bit boring.

BTW, I really believe that Erestor & Fin swing both ways.

I know that seems random, and it is.

    *hugs you*
    • In my original Elf-centric novels, it is normal for Elves to be bisexual. It just makes sense to me that long-lived/immortal beings would be more concerned with intimacy and love than procreation.

So I agree with you. ;)

And I am not necessarily always boring, but that generator sure picked all the boring items from my list! I mean, statistics?? That was kinda embarassing. ;)

        I mean, yes, I agree.

        *wipes brow*

Statistics show that not everyone thinks statistics are boring. Although, I'm afraid I do. But that's no reflection on you, of course. It's just that statistics are too mathematical for my anti-math brain to accept comfortably. Sigh...
  • "Elven Fantasy" eh?? *Arches eyebrow and smirks* There certainly are many aspects of ahem, "elvishness"...Indeed... >;P
    • Congratulations!!!

I was wondering who the first person would be to take "Elven fantasy" the wrong way!

      *bells whistles and confetti*
  • *ahem* me thinkest thou hast forgotten the Titans. ;-)

My interest list consisted of 0 interests. 0. Of course, it would behoove me to list a few thousand or so, seeing as how I'm interested in almost everything... *shrug*

Maybe my biggest interest is being lazy... LOL! ;-)

But I will concur with you on #'s 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9. #6 is opposite for me since I have no clue how to make ice cream, but LOVE eating it. Butter Pecan, please! Thank you!

And on #5, I'm pretty much a 'floater', and in-betweener, if you will. I believe and leave it at that. *shrug* Whether 'tis God, Goddess, both, and/or plural, I believe. I can't explain it any more than that, and when I pray, I know there's gotta be someone listening... ;-)

OH! But how come ghosty-stuff isn't listed?? That should've been up there 'round #1, you know... ;-)
    • What? No interest in statistics?? *shakes head sadly* ;)

I still have to add ghost-hunting and paranormal stuff to my interests list. I haven't updated it in a while, since I added all the stuff about candy and ice cream.

Speaking of ice crea...butter pecan, eh? *noted* That's one of my father-in-law's favorites so that was one of the first I'd learned to make.

I believe and leave it at that. *shrug* Whether 'tis God, Goddess, both, and/or plural, I believe. I can't explain it any more than that, and when I pray, I know there's gotta be someone listening... ;-)

I like that idea. :) I can't turn off my scientist's brain long enough to simply "believe" in something, but neither do I abandon the idea of a god/goddess/gods/etc. I think there's a lot more out there than we can perceive or detect with the resources we currently have available, which is why the paranormal stuff interests me so. Hence: agnostic! :^D
