A PSA about Following The Heretic Loremaster on LiveJournal

The (Cyber) Bag of Weasels

bread and puppet

"About as much fun as a bag of weasels"...when I first saw this Irish adage, it made me think of the life of a writer: sometimes perilous, sometimes painful, certainly interesting. My paper journal has always been called "The Bag of Weasels." This is the Bag of Weasels' online home.

A PSA about Following The Heretic Loremaster on LiveJournal

On a recent post, I mentioned my intentions for The Heretic Loremaster after my MA is finished in May, and quite a few people responded with questions on how to get updates of new posts, which tells me it is time to offer a friendly reminder that The Heretic Loremaster has a feed right here on LiveJournal! heretic_lore!

(There is also a feed on Dreamwidth.)

You can friend and unfriend a feed just like a regular journal or community, but here is where I offer my important reminder: This is a feed. It is not me cross-posting to LJ or DW but is rather an automated service that mirrors what I post to my HL blog via an RSS feed. While I did set it up (anyone can set up a feed on LJ for a page with RSS), I do not own or control it, and I can't do anything more with it than y'all can. That means that I receive no notification of comments left there, and after a number of days or posts, content disappears from the feed entirely, so comments/discussions left on the feed disappear with it. In other words, please don't comment on the feed! Use the link to the original post and comment there. (I wish LJ would disable comments on feeds, but that decision is above my pay grade.)

I am also going to set up where one can subscribe to email notifications when I post something new to the HL, but that will have to wait till May at the earliest. But it is on my agenda!
  • I am very happy that I have now sorted this out! You can just imagine my reaction when I have checked on the Heretic Loremaster only to find that I had totally missed a discussion a couple of times at least upon which I had a very strong personal opinion! Big mouthed Janet missing her chance to be heard! OMG! Didn't seem like much point on commenting on a long grown cold and quiet discussion thread.
    • I've had that happen, usually on Tumblr, when I stumble on something I want to comment on but the discussion is so old that I wonder if there's a point or if I am just looking obnoxious like I have to have the last word!

My sister did help me out with some upgrades to the old HL last year before the NY Tolkien Conference so that I could give out business cards without feeling wholly embarrassed at how out-of-date the site was. And one of the things she did was enable people to sign up for emails of new comments to posts, which I hope will make it easier for discussions to revive if someone comes along with a late comment.
