A few years ago, Oshun, Pandë, Hrymfaxe, and myself and Bobby met up in NYC to spend the day at the Met. It was really a good time. I know there's been one other small gathering in NYC since then.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing something like that again, maybe in the spring of 2013? I'm thinking New York again, since I know it's within a day-trip distance for a number of Tolkien fans (including myself).

This isn't a commitment or anything like that; just a preliminary reaching out to see if it's worth my energy to think about beyond just "Hey that'd be cool ..."

    Ooooh, that sounds like a good excuse to hop on the Acela and head to NYC!

    It was a lot of fun. Of course, I chuckle when I recall the patron who shushed Tristan and me when we were animatedly discussing something or other in the Weapons and Armor exhibit! :^D

      So when I typed "since I know it's within a day-trip distance for a number of Tolkien fans" you sensed the pointed look in your direction, eh? ;)

      Oh cool! Yay! If you have specific travel dates, could you let me know when you know? If we have people coming from far away (more than day-trip distance), if I can arrange it around when they'll be in NYC, I will. :)

    I've pretty much drifted away from the fandom, to be honest, but I like the thought of meeting up with some of the people I've met through Tolkien fandom in NYC (and possibly some people I don't know yet as well), and I can still enjoy conversations about Tolkien and the company of fans. So if it's appropriate for me to go and if my future job/life permits, I'm interested. :)

      Of course it's appropriate! :) You're one of the ones I was thinking of when I said "it's within a day-trip distance for a number of Tolkien fans," although I wasn't sure if you'd be interested. But I was hoping you would be. :)

      I'll definitely be going ahead with planning, so I'll keep you posted on the details as they pan out!

    I'd love to be there, but I have to second Rhaps and win in a lotto first. And there's always a visa requirement, which is a big deal. Eh.

      Yeah, it's definitely a bit more than a day trip for you! :D I'm definitely going to go ahead with planning it, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that something works out! :D

    I'm in, as long as something last-minute comes up to prevent me going. I've planned two holidays this year only to have them fall apart for some reason or other, but I'd sure love to get together with you and the others! :)

    Ok, so it's not wholly out of the question, after looking at some travel sites. About 400 pounds, plus accommodation. The sooner the dates are set, the more time I have to fill up the piggybank and start working on the case to be allowed a solo holiday for something like this. Plus, flights will only get more expensive, for anyone considering attendance from further afield.

    Michiru here, lurking like a lurker. Ok, well, actually, this time I was directed from the SWG; legitimacy!

    I would love to be able to meet up with everyone in New York. As long as the dates don't conflict with school, I'm there! (Late responder is late, I know.) Also, my roommate (recently introduced to the wonders of the Sil) says she would also come, providing it doesn't require us to miss school.

    Hello Dawn, this is oursblanc on dreamwidth. We spoke (wrote) a while ago about the Silmarillion podcast (has it started?) and planning a Feanorian event in 2014.

    Oh bummer! I've been dreaming of a meeting like this for a long time. But I'm leaving the states to a new place this week. I would have loved to attend if I could still be in the states next year. If a Skype meeting is possible, it would be fun to be able to meet everyone briefly through Skype.

    In any case, I still hope for a Feanorian event in 2014 (it's 7+7).

      Yikes, I'm so sorry to not have replied again about the podcast. I haven't heard from the original organizer in a while, so it totally slipped my mind. I know he's busy in RL, so I'm guessing it's on ice for a while. My comods and I have been talking on the SWG about doing something with podfic for the newsletter. If there's enough interest, maybe we could do a podcast too? Maybe not even every month.

      Boooo that you won't be around for our meet-up; that would have been really cool! I'd definitely be up for a Skype meeting or something along those lines. I'm still interested in the Feanorian event too. Thanks for the reminder! :) My brain is like Swiss cheese these days, and I sometimes feel like I forget more than I remember. Any particular ideas for the Feanorian event?

      Is it okay if I friend you here too? I tend to be on LJ more than DW; even though I like DW more, most of my fandom friends haven't changed sites.
