Haunted October Approacheth!

The (Cyber) Bag of Weasels

bread and puppet

"About as much fun as a bag of weasels"...when I first saw this Irish adage, it made me think of the life of a writer: sometimes perilous, sometimes painful, certainly interesting. My paper journal has always been called "The Bag of Weasels." This is the Bag of Weasels' online home.

Haunted October Approacheth!

Yes, it is almost that happy, haunted time of year again! For those new to my flist or who just overlooked Haunted October in years past, I have an annual tradition of posting an original spooky story each week during the month of October, culminating on Halloween, for (ideally) a grand total of five new stories. Last year, I fell off a bit because I was in the middle of my first semester, but I'm starting my semester in October this year (and in a different program to boot), so I'm hoping to keep up this year. I already have one story finished and several more underway, at least enough to make my goal. The challenge, of course, will be to finish them on time.

But the point about all of this isn't to crow about afflicting my flist with my horror fiction. It's to invite others to play along, even if only to share one story. Some of you have taken me up on my challenge in the past, and it is always such a joy to get to read other authors' spooky tales. If you write something in October, please do send me a link (because I rarely have time these days to devote the time to my flist that I should ...)

My own writings will all be flocked, so if anyone is out there lurking who wants to read the Haunted October stories, please let me know so that I may add you. Since Halloween is on a Saturday this year, new stories will be posted on Saturday.

This is my fourth year doing this, which is itself slightly scary. It seems like just yesterday that I first came up with the slightly mad notion. Past years' stories can be read here.

    • It is! I look forward to it every year ... and it forces me to actually write, which is a good thing. o.O
  • I'm looking forward to it! (When you friended me, I went back and read a few of them.)

I'll be joining you as well. I wrote an original story last month, and while I haven't had time to edit it yet (I'm in the middle of moving), my plan's to post it the week of Halloween. I will definitely send you a link.
  • akfjlkas I can't wait. This has been the highlight of my past 3 Octobers, aha. And this time I really want to give it a try with you, Dawn. :x I haven't written anything spooky for... ages. Or even Ages, actually. This must be fixed. At least, I'll try writing one scary story. Hee.

And, fff, I love being afflicted with your horror fiction. /o/

Also, have you seen the trailer for Paranormal Activity? It's supposed to be the scariest movie ever. I'm not sure if it'll live up to that, but the trailer was definitely interesting. >3 *excited*
    • Yes, that needs to be fixed! :D If you do write something, please let me know!

I have heard of Paranormal Activity; haven't seen a trailer yet (but since I don't watch TV and haven't been to many movies this year, at least compared to past years, then that's not too surprising). Apparently, here, it is being expanded from limited release, so we hope we get it. We never get limited release movies out here.
  • Well, you know I love Halloween/October and your stories, so please add:)
    • I don't know how I've missed adding you for this long! Sorry about that! :(

      But I remedied it. :)
