The Schizophrenic Day

The (Cyber) Bag of Weasels

bread and puppet

"About as much fun as a bag of weasels"...when I first saw this Irish adage, it made me think of the life of a writer: sometimes perilous, sometimes painful, certainly interesting. My paper journal has always been called "The Bag of Weasels." This is the Bag of Weasels' online home.

The Schizophrenic Day

alex say what
... not because I'm having hallucinations and delusions. Or, no more than usual.

But because it's a day that I was really looking forward to and dreading at the same time. So it feels rather ... crazy.

Lancelot had surgery today. I was dreading that. It's just a neuter--very routine--but the poor guy has been in and out of vets' offices since his accident a few weeks ago, and we just got him out of the e-collar (and off antibiotics and pain meds) only to be back to all that again. The good news is that Bobby called the vets' office an hour ago and Lance came through everything just fine. The bad thing is that it's never fun to have a little one in an e-collar and spacey on pain pills. He'll come home tomorrow morning.

Then, I've been looking forward to today because, tonight, we are going to Stars on Ice up in Hershey. This is an annual tradition for Bobby and me, but we are dragging my parents along this year too. Which, speaking of, they just arrived. So I'm off!

Thanks to everyone who sent Lance well wishes. I'll give him kisses for you. :)
• Awww! Poor little Lancelot. Have fun at the ice show.
• We did! Well, Bobby started out the night with a slight cold that came crashing down on him towards the end, but otherwise it went well.
• Oh, great! I love ice skating. Tell Bobby I hope he feels better. Thanks also for the birthday greetings. I rather got showered with them this year (wow!) so I am a little behind in thanking people.

(Hope to get you Daeron tomorrow--it is so close to done. I have the day to myself at last. I haven't had much of a break since I got back and have been a little less than up to even my usual slow-as-molasses standard.)
• I love ice skating too ... well, watching it. I'm terrible at actually doing it! Give me a good pair of quad rollerskates any day!

You're welcome for the greeting. No special thanks are necessary either. And Daeron ... it's really no hurry. I mean that. :) If you want to take a day to yourself, that's perfectly understandable after all you've been through of late. Believe me, I am beyond grateful to have you to write those bios in the first place. You do a fantastic job, and I know that I can be scatterbrained and not the easiest person to work with. ;)
• Thanks so much. For all my whining I really do like writing them.
I know that I can be scatterbrained and not the easiest person to work with. ;)
Oh, puleese! Hardly.
• Yar. Like the month that I think it was two days before the bio was due and I remembered to ask you if you were writing one and, if you were, who you were writing about??

Yep, scatterbrained indeed!
• I'm not going to argue about this. But I do know that there is supposed to be one every month!
• Awww, poor baby! Give him a good scratch on the head for me. Have fun at Stars on Ice!
• I will! He loves headscratches, especially since his mommy has nice, long fingernails. :)

And the show was great!
• Awww well in the mean time he's in good hands at the vet clinic. Not only that, he'll be the main expert of doing funky stuff with the e-collar. Have a great & relaxing time at Hershey!
• We did have fun, even if Bobby ended up sick by evening's end. (That will probably be an LJ entry unto itself but, now, I'm practically nodding off over the keyboard! It'd probably be incoherent.)

Lance was already a pro with using the edge of the e-collar to bowl into the backs of Mommy's knees to get her out of his way. :^P I suspect that I'm in for a real treat this time around ...

(It was also so cute how he'd squeeze his little eyes shut as soon as he'd see the e-collar coming over his head because he knew that the loops for his collar tended to rub over his eyes. Ai. When can I pick him up from the vets'?? :)
• Have fun in Hershey!

And poor little Lancelot... hope he'll recover well!

• We did, thank you! :)

The good news is that his surgery is laser surgery, which is supposed to be a much easier procedure. Alex had a regular surgery. We'll see. :)
• Aw, poor Lancelot. :(

Have fun at the show. :)
• Poor puup.... I cried when Cal was neutered. I'm such a wuss.

<3
• I know. Me too. I hate putting them through it. I know it's for the best, since we don't plan to breed them, both medically and socially, because of pet overpopulation but ... it's just so hard when they don't understand what's going on, why they're in pain, why they have to wear the stupid e-collar ... *sigh*
• Ohh, I feel for Lancelot. The drugs are all well and good, but you have to come down from them eventually. Give him lots of love for me.
• I will! Lance is going to get so many hugs tomorrow.

While on pain meds, Lance is fond of standing in the middle of the kitchen and just staring at ... nothing. Coupled with his cute little head in that stupid e-collar, it makes for a pitiful scene indeed.
• Duuuuuuuuuuuuude. Have you ever looked at, I mean really looked at the air? It's made of, like, molecules!
• If that is the case (and I've never been on pain meds, so I probably wouldn't know), then Lancelot is the expert by now.
• *pets puppy!*

And ha! I knew you were skipping...;) Hope it was fun!
• It was!

And I was legitimately off with permission, thank you very much. Today too. ;)
• Mmmhmm...legitimate like when I email my TA and say I'm sick and can't make it to lab when really I've made a chat date...:P
• *huggles* to the puppers!
• Awwwwww no, poor Lancelot...*snuggles* And Star Wars on Ice! That's awesome. Hope you had fun there!
• It's just plain ol' Stars on Ice, unfortunately. Star Wars on Ice would be really cool! :^P

But we did have fun! :)

(And Lance sends kisses.)
• ... I can only LOL at myself. xD What a misread... I'm glad you had fun, though! :-D
