The correct answer was "#2: I have won awards for miniatures painting." Neither of them were major awards but a first place for a large model in a Generals' Competition and a first place for Best Single Miniature in a Rogue Trader Tournament. tehta was correct that I have mentioned this before in my LJ; about a year ago, I posted photos of the models. Yes, I still paint but rarely; at the moment, I am working on Meryth and Talban models for Jenni from our original RPG and my original novel!verse, The Midhavens.
As for the other answers:
#1: I much prefer Lord of the Rings to The Silmarillion, both as a story and as fodder for my own writing. Not surprisingly, no one guessed this as the true fact. I love LotR for opening the doors to Tolkien's work and the fantasy genre for me, but The Silmarillion will always have first place in my heart.
#3: I am quite a competent ice skater. Close! I am quite a competent rollerskater. On ice, I am a loss. The difference between feeling an edge on a narrow blade or on a broad set of wheels is drastic, and I have never quite accustomed myself to it. While some are cross-competent, few skilled rollerskaters are comfortable on ice.
#4. I am trying to talk Bobby into naming our first child "Maedhros." We do not want to have children, first of all. Secondly, I couldn't even convince him to name our big cactus "Finrod," so fat chance on a Maedhros if we were having kids!
#5. My only pet is a stuffed unicorn called "Maeglin." The stuffed unicorn's name is "Nelyo," first of all. Secondly, I have another unicorn named "Macalaure" (a.k.a. "Hape") and a unicorn named "Findekano" as well as a whole crew of muses that I consider my pets.
#6. My laptop computer has recently decided that he prefers to be addressed as "Rumil, Lord of Tirion." Again...close! My laptop is named "Pengolodh," and recently, he has insisted on being addressed as, "Pengolodh, Lord of Gondolin." To which I replied, "Well why not 'Pengolodh Lord and Loremaster of Gondolin' then?" To which Bobby snicked and answered, "Lord and Whoremaster," which Pengolodh (Lord of Gondolin) ignored. He hummed in consideration of my proposal. Bobby is in the process of ordering a new laptop, and I have suggested that he name it "Rumil, Lord of Tirion" so that we have a matched set, but he doesn't seem very keen so far. But when Bobby has a hockey game, I take my laptop and write, and I can frequently be overheard telling him, "Hold on! Let me put Pengolodh, Lord of Gondolin in the car before your hockey equipment!" I dare not address him otherwise, the keeper of my stories!
Bobby and I were unexpectedly away this weekend when my mom suggested that we spend the night at my parents' after a cookout at my aunt's house, and we decided to combine that with hiking in Gunpowder and dinner at my inlaws' to make a weekend of it. Whew. But I will reply to emails tomorrow and post comments tomorrow afternoon, when I get home from work!
