Whew. A Pimp, a Meme, a Whole Buncha Other Random Crap....

The (Cyber) Bag of Weasels

bread and puppet

"About as much fun as a bag of weasels"...when I first saw this Irish adage, it made me think of the life of a writer: sometimes perilous, sometimes painful, certainly interesting. My paper journal has always been called "The Bag of Weasels." This is the Bag of Weasels' online home.

Whew. A Pimp, a Meme, a Whole Buncha Other Random Crap....

can of worms
Wow, what a weekend! I was busy from start to finish but only in the delightful, fun way that involves getting slightly misplaced in the woods, writing lots of HTML/CSS code, and not nearly enough napping. Of course, that means that I am behind on my beta-reading again. (Apologies to Alina and Cheryl.) It seems to be either 1) get behind on beta-reading or 2) get behind on everything else. I'm always behind on my own writing, regardless.

Before the rambling gets underway, I would like to pimp my sister. Again. I pimped her last week with regards to a piece she'd written on "gay adoption." Over the course of the week, I've had the urge to pimp nearly every one of her subsequent posts. But rather than do that, I am just pimping my sister. She is (obviously) very interested in GLBT issues and posts articles and commentary on a pretty regular basis. (She's also a good poet, but I'm crap at poetry so I can't say much more than that!) Since I know that a lot of people on my flist are interested in these issues, I am encouraging you to friend my sister and read her stuff. I asked her, and she says that does not mind and has wanted to friend some of you whose comments she's read in my LJ or to whom she has "spoken" but isn't into Elves and so didn't want to infringe on our happy fandom bubble...but I told her, "Infringe away!" We can talk about more than just Celegorm's hair color and care more about whether Maedhros or Feanor is hotter! (For the record, it's Maedhros. While Celegorm's hair color is debatable, there's no argument there. *hides from Alina and Arandil*)

Her LJ name is ssotknapsack. The most recent entry of hers that I read was an article on "gay adoption" as it relates to Catholic charities in the US and the foolishness of preferring that children remain unadopted and "in the system" than going into a home with loving parents who want them. Being straight and able to skip about in my happy la-la land with my husband where our love is sanctioned and we could have or adopt children if we wanted to, these things often slip under the radar for me, but I find myself grinding my teeth to stumps reading about how ignorant, bigoted, and cruel people can be. But that is a rant I've made many times before and will save now for another time.

I've seen this meme floating around. On my flist, mirien had it first, but I've seen it elsewhere since then. It seems rather interesting, perhaps cathartic, and a little dangerous. So here goes.

List 10 things you want to say to people but know you never will. Don't say who they are.

For the record, no one being badmouthed in this meme is on my flist. Which lessens the danger but also the chance of feelings being accidentally hurt. Because I love y'all and you wouldn't be on my flist if I thought you were a pain in the ass. Also, I can't guarantee that I won't say some of these things. The nice things, of course, I'd say. The mean things...well, I have been known to exhibit a rather Feanorian temper....

  1. I love you. I never thought I'd be so weak or wishy-washy as to ever say the words "You are my reason for living," but you are. I would not want to live without you.

  2. I am hard to annoy, but you are annoying. If I wasn't set on being nice to people online, I might tell you off. You don't always have to be right. You don't always have to be in charge. Learn some fucking manners and some tact.

  3. You should be canonized as a saint. You are underappreciated and too often disrespected, but you are one of the kindest and most admirable people I know. But stop taking shit off of people. You don't need to put up with that and your happiness is not a fair price for theirs.

  4. You are a racist idiot, a pathological liar, and we all laugh at you behind your back at work.

  5. You are the worst thing that ever happened to me.

  6. I wish I had thanked you and told you that I loved you before you died. I wish that I could tell you that I am sorry for making your last days with me full of my teenaged self-centered foolishness.

  7. I am still just stunned at your immaturity. And you call yourself a grown woman? And you have a child? *pities the poor beast and the man you made it with* I don't know where you ever got the delusion that you were important enough to anyone that we thought you worth snubbing. Get real and some antipsychotics for your delusions of grandeur.

  8. And you: You need to stop letting yourself be pushed around by the other person mentioned on this list. She is not a friend. Realize that and you will be much more happy.

  9. You need to get away from him. I care for you, but he is destroying you. I cringe whenever I hear what he has done to you. Please know that you deserve much better; a woman who is a great friend and an even better mom is above trash like him.

  10. I am not sure what you want from me. I love you, but I find myself afraid sometimes to accept what you want to offer me because I've been slapped (figuratively) and hurt by you twice now in three months. I wonder: What strings come attached this time?

Whee. That was kind of fun in a completely evol way. >:^]

Bobby and I kicked off the hiking season on Saturday by taking our first woodland wander. I can't really call it a "hike" because we were just kind of wandering aimlessly in the woods, testing Dawn's orienteering skills. We looked at a map prior to stepping on the trail and just kind of chose forks in the road from there. So we didn't really know where we were, but I hesitate to call us "lost" because we weren't exactly trying to get anywhere specific. Just wandering.

It was great, though! There is s haze of green in the river valleys so spring is near! We walked for two hours, so I figure we did at least three miles, probably closer to four. Between that and skating the next day, my poor legs got a workout!

Most of my time at home was spent working on the SWG site. The layout is done so now I need to add the content. So that's what I was doing, and I got a good deal done. I set myself some goals:

End of March: Have the basic site finished. (This does not count archive and forum.) Post in a free hosting place to get feedback.
End of April: Finish PHP lessonbook.
End of May: Have archive running.

That seems reasonable.

This week's goals include:
  • Catch up on RPG. Post stuff about Asymara. Finish drawing maps.

  • Do another chapter of Cheryl's story. Get a decent start on Alina's story.

  • Do not pull muscle in leg again. Do not forget skating solo.

  • Finish content on SWG site.

  • Write a birthday story for allie_meril. (It might be a couple days late, hon!)

  • Do not forget daily drabble.

  • Get out of the current PoV chapter for Midhavens story and into the next.

  • Start Easter candy. *shakes fist at Easter, which is the stupidest frikkin' holiday*

That seems a reasonable schedule.

Actually, my offline schedule is rather light this week. Bobby surprised me with tickets to Stars on Ice up in Hershey for Thursday, so I have a half-day at work on Thursday and took off on Friday. Speaking of skating, yay to Kimmie Meissner, who won the women's world championship in figure skating! She's only sixteen and practically a neighbor to my parents and so a sort of local hero. Yay, Kimmie!

If I'd stop writing this entry, I could go do some beta-work....
  • This will be short and mostly incoherent because I feel bleugh, so bear with me!

Friended your sister and left a comment she sounds great! That meme is somewhat dangerous, but I think the relief it gave people was good.

Um , I had some other stuff to say, but everything hurts, so I'm going back to bed!
    • Awwww.... *sends Elves and chocolate* or maybe *sends Elves in chocolate* >;^)

My sister is very cool. I'd like to say it runs in the family, but.... *raises eyebrow at self*

I hope you feel better! I was sore and sick and miserable all at once a few weeks ago, and all I wanted to do was crawl into bed and die for a week. Happy thoughts and *hugs* coming your way. :)
  • I went through Catholic Charities as a foster child, they suck as much as regular DSS - they made me seem like i had all sorts of issues and they were always holding me back. Blah! people piss me off too, i'm just too nice to ever show it unless it concerns my FIL, SIL, or any other member of my family, in-laws or biological.
  • Thanks for the pimpage, as always. :-D

And wow, I might pinch that 10 Things meme from you... it was very intriguing (yours had me trying to figure out who was who [or is that "whom was whom?" Oh hell...]). Seems like it'd be a very cleansing activity.
  • I seem to have a lot of Marylanders on my flist these days. Not that this is a bad thing. ;)
  • "Pimp my sis"...? Heeh, don´t think I´ve ever heard that one before. I will friend her though, if she doesn´t mind. :o)
    • I'm going to speak for her and say that she doesn't mind. She asked me to pimp/inquire as to whether she could friend people on my flist. Apparently, she likes y'all.... ;)
  • *scrinches up face*
Okay, after reading everything here, including all the comments and replies, I just want to say...um...

    Yay for gay rights.
I despise oysters, though I live in a place where we get supposedly good, fresh ones.
Love fresh razor clams, yum. They melt in your mouth and taste glorious.
Dungeness crabs are the best, yum.
Love lobster too, especially the Australian variety.
Gee, I hope I wasn't any of the truth meme #'s...
Be careful with your knees, and I MEAN it.
You have an amazing to-do list. I've been on the 3rd paragraph of my current story for a month now. *sighs*

And, a bumper sticker I saw today:

    "Ankh if you love Isis."
    *snort*
    • Kudos for efficient commenting! ;)

I despise oysters, though I live in a place where we get supposedly good, fresh ones.

I've only ever had them in oyster stew. They had the consistency of bogies; that was enough for me to know that I never wanted to try them again.

The idea of raw oysters.... *shudders* Teh Husband and I once went on a trip on the Chesapeake for an environmental science class and they dredged a muck sample from the bottom of the bay...and no thank you. I am not eating raw something that's been wallowing in that all day.

Love fresh razor clams, yum. They melt in your mouth and taste glorious.

Never had them and now--being a vegetarian--never will. But I will take your word for it! (My main complaint of clams is that they were tough, like pencil erasers, so maybe I would like razor clams.)

Dungeness crabs are the best, yum.

I've never even heard of them. We Bal'morons like our common blue crabs with lots of Old Bay and cold Natty Boh. ;)

Gee, I hope I wasn't any of the truth meme #'s...

No one on my flist was in any of the negative ones. Seven of the ten are real-life people; the three online people are just people who generally annoy me online.

Be careful with your knees, and I MEAN it.

Yes, mum. ;) Seriously, I will.

You have an amazing to-do list. I've been on the 3rd paragraph of my current story for a month now. *sighs*

More like I take on too many commitments! Also, I have a job where I usually finish my work literally in the first hour I'm here (I'm here now, typing comments and scanning things to the network at the same time, and it's 8:27), so lots of writing/beta/SWG/website stuff gets done at work.

      "Ankh if you love Isis."

      *sporfle* That's a good one!
  • We can talk about more than just Celegorm's hair color and care more about whether Maedhros or Feanor is hotter! (For the record, it's Maedhros. While Celegorm's hair color is debatable, there's no argument there. *hides from Alina and Arandil*)

Run, Dawn , run and hide Maedhros from both Feany and I, because we both think he is smoking hot and we are coming after him! >;) Besides, all that hotness has to come from somewhere...

Worry yourself not about the beta stuff. I told you that there is no rush, not with my story, anyway. ;)

I love hiking in the woods and getting lost, on occasion. There is such a thrill in not being sure exactly where you are...

While reading your 10 list, I caught myself trying to figure out who the people you would say such things to are... and managing to guess a few. If I even attempted to do this meme, I would need all day and 100 lines worth of crap that I would gladly spit in many people's faces. But I am at my rope's end about many things, so I will not spam your flist with my annoyance.

Take care and have a great week.
    • Run, Dawn , run and hide Maedhros from both Feany and I, because we both think he is smoking hot

Lol! But do you think he is hotter than Feanor? Your preciousss?? :^P

Maedhros has always been the only character for me, from the moment I first read the Sil. I love Feanor too and many of his brothers/cousins but Mae...there's just something about that guy.

I love hiking in the woods and getting lost, on occasion. There is such a thrill in not being sure exactly where you are...

Bobby and I are fond of just...going. "Hey, we saw this park, let's go check it out." And once we're on a trail, it's hard to get us to turn back, impossible if we come to a fork where it looks like it goes someplace cool. We tend to have the same mindset when traveling to new cities. "Do you know where this goes? No? Then let's find out!"

One of our mottos: The worst that can happen is you get lost. We've been lost plenty; I have a good sense of direction and can usually point us in the direction of home. :)

While reading your 10 list, I caught myself trying to figure out who the people you would say such things to are... and managing to guess a few.

Some of them are pretty obvious. Like #1. (Doh.) I won't say who the people are or even if guesses are correct (although 1lady_so_divine is trying really hard above!) But I think some of them are fairly obvious. :)

But I am at my rope's end about many things, so I will not spam your flist with my annoyance.

First of all, you are never spam to me. Secondly, there's no law that says I have to read my flist entries. Most of my flist entries are community posts and syndicated feeds, and I don't read them. I do always read yours, but I spam my flist plenty with boring crap; my friends are certainly entitled. Write it, if you think it will make you feel better. :)

Take care and have a great week.

You too! *hugs* to you and take care of Feany. Don't let him--or you--kill anyone. I'm not sure how your prisons are for Internet access. ;)
  • Wow! What a great post! It completely lifted my spirits. Not that they're that down, but kind of. (See? I'm using terrible grammar. I do that when I'm bummed.) Enough about me.

I am totally friending your sister. Especially since I joined AC, and I love her politics anyway.

That meme is awesome. I kind of want to try it. Maybe I will. It sounds as if you purged a lot of heartfelt angst out of your system. Did it really make you feel better?

Your weekend hike sounds like it was a blast! I LOVE doing stuff like that! I think I'll take Sean and go to the huge park near us and just walk through the whole thing along the creek. It's supposed to be really mild and sunny again today.

Wow! Lucky you, seeing Stars on Ice! And yay to Kimmie Meissner. U.S. women are always awesome figure skaters. Us Canadians usually choke, although we have some good men and pairs. Don't know why we choke so much. Our golfers do it too.

Anyway, you made my day! I'm off to write some more perv!
    • Yay! My dorky post made you happy again! That makes me happy because Felak *hearts* when Jenni writes perv. :^P

I am totally friending your sister. Especially since I joined AC, and I love her politics anyway.

Yay! I told her some people on Sunday who she should friend, and you were on it. Unfortunately, her eyes crossed at all the Elven names!

It sounds as if you purged a lot of heartfelt angst out of your system. Did it really make you feel better?

Yes, actually, it felt quite good to pound the keys in angry glee. >;^))

Your weekend hike sounds like it was a blast! I LOVE doing stuff like that! I think I'll take Sean and go to the huge park near us and just walk through the whole thing along the creek. It's supposed to be really mild and sunny again today.

It was! Bobby and I try to hike every weekend until the temperature/humidity rises to where it is dangerous if you don't go with three gallons of water for each mile that you walk. It was great trying a new park, too. That's always exciting.

I think it's awesome that you and Sean go on so many walks. I would have loved to do that as a kid. (My uncle Wodie used to take my sister and me on walks down the street, but we lived in a rural community so we didn't have parks.) Have fun! :)

Us Canadians usually choke, although we have some good men and pairs. Don't know why we choke so much. Our golfers do it too.

Yeah, that's weird. You'd think that Canadians would be much more apt on ice than Americans, especially considering how hard it is to find ice time around here. (Take it from the wife of a hockey player!) The thing that astounds me about Kimmie is that she is only 16. And she landed 7 triples, including a triple-triple combination. She triples jumps that I can't even reliably single. It's amazing to me. (And a little depressing, too, I admit. :^P)
  • Ooh, hiking! I should do some of that...

Hmm, I feel sure there was something else, but I forot what...
